Karmanos-Crittenton Cancer Center
Rochester Hills, Michigan
Located in Rochester Hills, Mich., the Karmanos-Crittenton Cancer Center is a joint venture between the Barbara Ann Karmanos Cancer Center and Crittenton Hospital Medical Center. Karmanos is one of only 40 National Cancer Institute-designated comprehensive cancer centers in the U.S. The $16 million facility offers advanced radiation therapy, innovative chemotherapy, diagnostic imaging, physician office visits and an on-site laboratory. The nearly 31,000 square foot building has a lodge-like atmosphere and its angular shape features sloped roof planes and high-tech geometric forms.
Completed in February 2010, the building features approximately 24,000 square feet of 22-gauge galvanized steel Elevate UNA-CLAD UC-14 RS and 5,000 square feet of 22-gauge galvanized steel UNA-CLAD UC-3 RS, as well as 2,000 square feet of 24-gauge galvanized steel UNA-CLAD UC-500 flush panels. The building also features custom fabricated .063 aluminum column covers on the roof and main entrance area. Elevates wide range of user-friendly metal panel options made it the ideal choice to satisfy the various roofing conditions for this project.
Because the roof deck was segmented, the creation of a radius roof on the southwest side of the building using tapered panels presented an interesting challenge to the installing contractor. The coordination of multiple metal roofing systems in various color finishes including KYNAR Champagne Metallic for the roofing panels and Classic Copper for the soffit and trims also proved challenging. However, the contractors knowledgeable and skilled roofing professionals easily overcame these challenges to complete the project on schedule.
The roof was installed by Lutz Roofing Co., Inc. and is protected by a Elevate Red Shield 5-year Warranty.
