It is important to ensure all roofing projects meet Elevate quality standards, and we want to provide you with the tools to continue to succeed in the roofing industry. Here are some helpful tips from our Canadian Tech Reps for installing UltraPly™ TPO and RubberGard™ EPDM roofing systems.
Tips for UltraPly™ TPO Roofing Systems
Suitable for a variety of low-slope commercial roofing applications, Elevate UltraPly™ TPO roofing membranes are a sustainable roofing solution for a wide range of building types. The versatile membrane offers a variety of installation options including fully adhered, self adhered, and mechanically attached. Below are some key tips from our tech reps for installing UltraPly™ TPO roofing systems.
- If Splice Wash was used to clean the membrane, make sure it is fully flashed off to prevent a 'cold weld'.
- Check all TPO seams daily with a seam probe before installing cut edge sealant.
- It is highly advised to properly probe the start and stops from the robot welder on an UltraPly TPO seam. A TPO T-Patch will be required at those locations and this could avoid callbacks on projects.
- Self Adhered TPO membranes must be allowed to relax a minimum of 30 minutes before installation to avoid wrinkles in finished products. Colder temperatures will require a longer relaxation time.
Tips for Rubbergard™ EPDM Roofing Systems
Since its introduction in 1980, the Elevate RubberGard™ EPDM system has dominated the single-ply roofing market through its proven performance, durability and flexibility over a wide range of building types.
The RubberGard™ EPDM system has delivered more than three decades of commercial roofing success by building upon a heritage of innovation in rubber polymer technology. The versatile membrane offers a variety of installation options including fully adhered, self adhered, ballasted or mechanically attached that deliver superior long-term weatherability and exhibit exceptional wind-uplift resistance. Below are some tips from our tech reps for installing RubberGard™ EPDM.
- Self Adhered EPDM membranes must be allowed to relax a minimum of 30 minutes before installation to avoid wrinkles in finished products. Colder temperatures will require a longer relaxation time.
- When installing EPDM seam tape and the seam tape roll comes to an end, overlap the next roll 1”, and make a mark with your crayon beside the overlap so that you can come back and install a T-joint patch on the overlaps.
Tips for Accessories & Complimentary Products
- Always confirm the requirement for perimeter enhancement for mechanically attached membranes. Half sheets or RMA strips in the middle of the membrane sheets are required in the perimeter. Additional half sheets or RMA strips may be required over areas with large wall openings and bay doors.
- RPF strips cannot be fastened into roof boards or drywall. RPF strips can be installed into the steel deck or acceptable wall substrate such as ⅝” thick plywood with appropriate fasteners and plates at 12” on center. The maximum fastener length for RPF or base tie in attachment is 10”.
- Always confirm insulation fastening patterns as they differ between manufacturers and board types, but are critical to achieve proper wind uplift and warranty requirements.
