When the building owner required a durable, high-performance roof that could be installed quickly in cold weather conditions while meeting a revised budget, Elevate delivered.
This 76,000 sq. ft. food manufacturing facility in Cambridge, Ontario, features an UltraPly TPO SA system with two layers of insulation - ISOGARD CG and ISOGARD HD Composite. This streamlined design not only reduced material costs but also allowed for faster installation in colder temperatures.
A key challenge was the timing–roofing work had to begin early in the year when temperatures fluctuate and maintaining product temperatures at a required level is necessary. This made both the speed of application and the ability to work within strict cold-weather installation requirements essential to keeping the project on schedule.
It was also important to meet a budget-friendly approach without sacrificing performance. There was a need for a cost-effective solution that would speed up installation time, deliver the durability and thermal performance needed to support the food manufacturing and distribution requirements of the business.
The building owner also wanted the option to install a solar PV field on the roof in the future. This meant the reworked specification not only had to reduce cost but also provide an exposed membrane roof system capable of supporting a solar PV racking system down the line.
Traditional fully adhered systems would have faced temperature restrictions and slower application rates. The UltraPly™ TPO SA system proved the ideal solution, as it can be installed in temperatures as low as -7°C. SecureBond™ technology eliminates the need for adhesives and ensures uniform adhesion coverage across the entire membrane, with installation up to 4x times faster*, keeping the project moving despite the cold.
The original roof design included multiple layers and adhesive applications, which increased both material costs and installation time. The Elevate team suggested a more streamlined and efficient assembly, that would still be durable and long-lasting, and support a PV solar racking system.
This revised system upgraded the insulation, reduced the number of layers and by leveraging the factory laminated boards - ISOGARD HD Composite, lowered material costs, and allowed the contractor to install the roof much faster—an important advantage given the winter conditions and tight schedule.
The completed roof is also backed by a 20-year Elevate Red Shield™ Warranty, ensuring long-term performance and peace of mind for the building owner.
