Van Andel Institute
Grand Rapids, Michigan
Located in downtown Grand Rapids, the Van Andel Institute is committed to improving the health and enhancing the lives of current and future generations through disease research and science education. The building, which was designed by famed architect Rafael Viñoly, is set into a steep hill at the beginning of Grand Rapids’ “Medical Mile.”
The Institute features 30,273 square feet of fully adhered 80-mil Elevate UltraPly TPO over Elevate ISO 95+ polyiso insulation. Combining a mixture of retrofit roofing and new construction, this unique building has approximately 12 different roof levels, including a vegetative roof system and pavers with pedestals. In addition, the upper level roofs incorporate an extensive array of solar panels. The replacement roof type was chosen because of its durability and reflectivity. The roof is FM/UL and LEED certified.
The roof was installed by Great Lakes Systems, Inc. and is protected by a Elevate Red Shield 20-year Warranty.
