Horizon Oil Sands
Alberta, Canada
As part of the $10.8 billion Horizon Oil Sands project, a 40,320 square foot central control building was built to house administrative offices, lockers, showers and a lunchroom. The building features 56 12 ft. x 60 ft. modular units covered by a custom designed, fully adhered 45-mil Elevate TPO membrane. A customized curb design was created to support the building’s HVAC units and maintain the roofing system’s integrity.
The first challenge was to find a company to design and build the facility in the subarctic climate of Alberta, where the average winter temperature is 0? F. Another challenge was the need for a supplier with extensive TPO experience that could design a customized, high-quality roofing system. The biggest challenge was the building owner’s request for customized, reinforced curbs to support its large HVAC units.
Elevate provided not only the custom-cut TPO membrane but all the materials and accessories required for successful installation including pipe boots, adhesives, caulk, cleaner, primer, fasteners and plates, flashing, termination bars, DensDeck substrate and penetration-pocket kits. Thanks to all the skilled professionals, the Horizon Oil Sands central control building was ready for occupancy after only 10 months, and the building owner was very pleased with the work.
