The ribbon-cutting for Bridgestone’s new off-road radial (ORR) tire facility is not the kind of event that happens every day in the small town of Graniteville in Aiken County, South Carolina.
It was big news on Tuesday, November 25, 2014, when Bridgestone dedicated the new facility on Giant Tire Parkway in Graniteville. The 1.5 million-square-foot facility including the project investment of $1.2 billion drew attention from around the state and around the world. The new facility produces various off road radial tire products used to equip heavy haul trucks in
mining and construction.
The new Aiken County Off Road Radial Tire Plant was constructed with many sustainable features and materials in alignment with Bridgestone’s global commitment to the environment.
The plant is built to LEED® (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Silver construction specifications. In addition, sustainable and advanced technologies from Elevate Building Products, a subsidiary of Bridgestone Americas, were used throughout the facility. The new plant relies on UltraPly™ TPO roofing, ISO 95+™ GL Insulation, UNA-FOAM™ Insulated Metal Wall Panels, SkyPaver™ Composite Roof Pavers and GeoGard™ Lining for retention ponds and water harvesting areas.
