The Asse fire station centralises the dispatching of the various fire brigades within the Flemish Brabant West fire zone. All the roofs of the various units in the building were waterproofed with Elevate's RubberGard EPDM membrane, including the green roof sections, which combine gravel ballast, vegetation and wooden terraces.

The total roof surface of the barracks in Asse is approximately 3,000 m², which were all covered with RubberGard EPDM. In addition to a lifespan that can reach 70 years*, this membrane is highly weather-resistant, elastic and environmentally friendly. Moreover, after installation, it can be perfectly covered with gravel, tiles, roof terraces, photovoltaic systems, or green roofs.
Based on the specific requirements of the various roof sections of the fire station, the RubberGard EPDM membrane was attached to the roof deck using two different systems. The main roof was mechanically attached using the RMA system. This lightweight system secures the membrane in place without puncturing it.
In order to provide firefighters with a place to relax, Asse-based C2O Architects integrated several roof gardens into the design. On these sections, RubberGard EPDM was loosely laid on the substrate and held in place with ballast. Gravel was the primary type of ballast used, but roof gardens and wooden terraces with benches were also included.
RubberGard EPDM is not only compatible with accessible roofs or the installation of solar panels, it is also an ideal solution for roofs that feature many details. In this case: solar collectors, skylights, roof penetrations and air conditioning units. Thanks to the ongoing training and support provided by Elevate’s local partner and a complete range of accessories, the roofing crew finished all these details to the highest standards.
