Glazer’s Children’s Museum
Tampa, Florida
The Glazer Children’s Museum is a unique building with visually appealing features embodying the imaginative play and fun that will be occurring within its walls on a daily basis. The new facility offers more than 170 exhibits with interactive games and activities for children 10 and under.
The museum’s roof features 17,500 square feet of Elevate SBS modified bitumen roofing system with Elevate ISO 95+ GL polyiso insulation and ½-inch Firestone Fibertop Woodfiber applied in hot asphalt. Approximately 1,875 square feet of .050 Elevate UNA-CLAD metal was also used for the coping along with 750 square feet of UNA-CLAD metal for the gutters. Specified by the roofing contractor for its inherent robust properties, the Firestone system has a proven history of performance in Florida’s extreme climate. After initial design and specification, over 25 installation and sheet metal technicians installed the system within 30 days.
Located on the Hillsborough River in the center of downtown Tampa, the project presented some challenges. With simultaneous construction projects occurring on the jobsite, the location was constantly congested. Utilizing cranes to load roofing materials and remove debris also created a hazard. In addition, the roofing contractor worked diligently to ensure the project remained on schedule as it needed to be completed within a short timeframe.
