Located in the heart of downtown Grand Rapids, the Kent County Administration Building features 18,500 square feet of fully-adhered 60-mil Elevate RubberGard EPDM with a Elevate AcryliTop PC-100 Base Coat over two layers of 2? Elevate ISO 95+ GL polyiso insulation. The original roof was a modified bitumen system featuring Calder on the Roof, a colorful abstract painting created in 1974 by well-known sculptor Alexander Calder to complement his La Grande Vitesse sculpture located in the adjoining plaza. The painting, which covers the roof of the Kent County Administration Building and can be seen from the upper floors of the surrounding buildings, had weathered severely and was in need of restoration. Elevate RubberGard EPDM was chosen for this project because it provided a suitable painting surface to recreate the original Calder design.
