Carl Harrison High School

Located in Kennesaw, Ga., Carl Harrison High School is a public high school with approximately 2,600 students. Established in 1991, Harrison ranks in the top six percent of national public high schools. Harrison High School recently completed a $1.25 million renovation that included a reroof of its current roofing system. With an installation team of 12 roofers and four sheet metal workers, the 75-day project began in May 2009 by removing the existing 25-year-old gravel-surfaced BUR system from the metal deck. Approximately 218,500 square feet of Elevate SBS Premium FR Cap Sheets were installed over 2.3 inches of Elevate ISO 95+ GL polyiso insulation and attached with 3-inch Elevate Heavy-Duty Fasteners. The roof was installed to UL and FM standards and completed on time. The Elevate SBS system offers high performance and cost effectiveness. Removing and replacing the large roofing system within a relatively short period of time presented a significant challenge during the project installation. To complicate things, the school remained open on weekdays for summer programs and Sundays for religious services, which required extra coordination with moving vehicles and installation crews. Another challenge included installing 24 new 6-inch roof drains with hundreds of lineal feet of cast iron piping while the building was in use. Despite these challenges, the contractor’s knowledgeable and skilled roofing professionals easily met the school district’s expectation and completed the project on time. The roof was installed by Nations Roof South, LLC and is protected by a Elevate Red Shield 20-year Warranty.
